It's easy to feel alone as the shadows gather and the pale moon rises over the High Plains. The Apache say that on nights like this, the cold wind from the prairie has a mind of its own - a malignant chill, born of the darkness, which eats at your warmth, and steals all compassion.

It was a night like that when Barton Duvall rode into Tombstone. A night like that when they found what was left of little Alina Hundle - the few sad remains, barely recognizable, that Barton had left for her family to bury. And, it was a night like that when you realized that justice was more than a word bandied around by fearful shopkeepers - it was a necessity.

Professor Joshua Thomas is well-known as a brilliant archeologist whose work has been critical in broadening our understanding of the ancient world. His research into the esoteric practices of many cultures has thrown light on ancient beliefs, making him an authority on the occult. Now retired, other than some part-time work at Miskatonic University, Thomas has become something of a socialite. He happily lends his expertise to those who visit his vacation cabin, situated just an hour or so out of Arkham. Over the years, he’s become a friend, rival, or mentor to many. Our story begins one bright morning in late September, just as your car crests over a ridge on the hilly drive up to Thomas’ cabin. When you arrive, you intend to catch up with the professor, compare notes, and perhaps share a discreet glass of whiskey.

Scenario: Bits And Pieces

Time Period: 1927

EVENT DATE/TIME TBC

Your evening is ruined. All plans are off after you received a frantic call from Dr. Lawrence Warwick, a consulting physician who, until now, worked at a variety of hospitals across the East Coast. Recently, Warwick lost his position at St. Mary’s Teaching Hospital in Arkham due to a dereliction of his duties, which was probably “code” for some sort of scandal. Authorities revoked his medical license, barring him from practice. Warwick did not take the dismissal well. Earlier today, he called you and ranted wildly about how his actions had been necessary to avert some terrible crisis. Either directly or via an intermediary, his message reached you. Most of Warwick’s call was incoherent, although he did linger on a few sinister words. He mentioned cultists, resurrection, and the need for cleansing fire. Dropping whatever you were doing, you have responded to his call. You’ve taken it upon yourselves to find Warwick and figure out exactly what’s happening. Our story begins as you arrive at his apartment—a small suite with an attached consulting room and office in the Tower Professional Building in downtown Arkham. When you enter, the living room, kitchen area, and bedroom all look normal but quite messy; however, when you reach the consulting room and the office, you see they are in a state of chaos. Papers and furniture are everywhere, new tools litter the floor, and something reeks of gasoline. There is no sign of Warwick, but the state of his apartment doesn’t bode well. You need to find him, figure out what frightened him, and make sure things don’t get out of hand. The information you need to locate him must be somewhere in this room.
