King Suite
In 1869 to support the railroad, George W. King, a prolific land developer and business owner residing in Neillsville, WI, constructed this Building as a hotel, bar and Grill and dubbed it the ROCKY MOUND HOUSE. King owned several parcels of land and businesses in the area, including a sawmill in town that burnt down in 1878. George W. King was instrumental in the formation of the Town of Humbird and is noted as one of its first residents and leaders. Born in the UK, he and his family immigrated here through Boston and settled in Mentor, Ohio. Upon arriving in this area, he originally named this town Mentor, which is the name still used by our town officials as Humbird is unincorporated. We have traced the life of George W. King from the UK all the way to his final resting place in Idaho. It is Believed he followed the path of many that time by continuing to push west to make his fortunes.
